The Choir's History

In 1984 the RCN (Royal College of Nursing) choir based at Singleton Hospital disbanded and another choir was formed in 1985 for staff from all the different departments within the hospital to come together. What started as nine choristers quickly grew to thirty, as membership was extended to those outside the NHS.  The decision was then made to start raising money for the hospital by putting on concerts around Swansea.

The aim of the choir was, and still is, to introduce people to singing and the enjoyment that goes with it.  Whilst we do enjoy singing, we also raise money for some very worthy causes. To date the choir has raised in the region of £25,000.

Since 2018, rehearsals have been held at St James’ Church, Uplands, Swansea and in 2023 we changed our name to Swansea Bay Ladies Choir to reflect where we are from and to celebrate our proud roots in the City and County of Swansea.
